YAZZIE, Ruth

SANDERS — Graveside services for Ruth Utentillie Yazzie, 103, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 10. Pastor Ben Yazzie will officiate. Burial will be in Jeddito Community Cemetery. Yazzie died Jan. 8, 2008 in Gallup. She was born Jan. 1, 1908 in Hard Rock, Ariz., into the Red Running into the Water People Clan for the Big Water People Clan. Yazzie was a medicine/herbalist, rugweaver, moccasin maker, pottery maker and a traditional educator. Survivors include her daughter, Mary J. Tsosie of Smoke Signal, Ariz. Yazzie was preceded in death by Fatty Utentillie, Wilson Arnoldith, Henry Zah, Oliver Thompson, Mable Jimmie, Elizabeth U. Phillip, John Ben I, John Ben II, John Ben III and Bessie Tsosie. Pallbearers will be family members. Silver Creek Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
