HAMMONS, John Merrill

West Valley View, Avondale, Arizona December 15, 2005 John Merrill Hammons, 60, of Avondale died Dec. 6, 2005. Mr. Hammons was born Dec. 23, 1944, in Mayhill, N.M., and was raised in Ajo. He served two years in the Army during the Vietnam War, and later worked for 28 years as an accountant for the Internal Revenue Service, from which he retired in 2000. Mr. Hammons is survived by his wife, Kathy; one daughter, Lauren; one stepson, Gerald Law; one brother, Carl Hammons of Oregon; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. A service was held Dec. 10 at Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel in Goodyear. Memorials may be sent to local food banks and the Arizona Humane Society. Thompson’s Valley West Funeral Chapel made the arrangements.
