MURIN, Mary Ellen


Daily Courier, Prescott, Arizona Thursday, January 10, 2008 Mary Ellen Murin, 86, passed away Jan. 6, 2008. Brothers Robert and Len Hiller and sister Virginia Clark, together with their families, survive Mary Ellen. She was born on July 19, 1921, in Johnston City, Ill. A child at the time of the Great Depression, she often talked of the hard work and courage of her family during that period. The family moved to Colorado in 1929, and she earned her teaching credentials from colleges in Tennessee and Colorado. She first taught school at a mining camp in Climax, Colo. Mary Ellen moved to Arizona in 1945 and met the love of her life, Joseph Murin, whom she married in 1950. Joe worked as a teacher, social worker and employment counselor and Mary Ellen continued teaching, mostly to children with special needs. They moved to Prescott Valley in 1984, where they remained active in church and charitable organizations. After Joe passed away in 2000, Mary Ellen moved to the Los Fuentes retirement community in Prescott. In 2005, she moved to Fellowship Square in Mesa, Ariz. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at the Bunker’s Garden Chapel, 33 North Centennial Way, Mesa, Ariz. Information provided by survivors.
