Peoria (IL) Star Thursday, May 13, 1954 p A-4 Funeral services for Herbert J Schifeling Sr, 52, of 114 Delaware Ave., who died at 3am Wednesday at St Francis Hospital where he had been a patient six days, will be held at 8:30am Friday at the Cumerford-Endsley Memorial Home and at 9 at St Bernard's Catholic Church. The Rev Charles Fogarty will officiate. Burial will be in St Mary's Cemetery. Friends may call at the memorial home this evening and there will be a recitation of the rosary at 8pm. Mr Schifeling had been employed for 33 years at the Caterpillar Tractor Co., where he was a department superintendent. A lifelong Peorian, he was born here April 4, 1902. He was a son of Joseph P and Mary Keenan Schifeling and married Gladys F Coon there Aug 21, 1924. He was a member of St Bernard's Catholic Church and the 25-year Club at Caterpillar. Surviving are his wife; five daughters, Mrs Virginia Zierke, Mrs Valorie Virgil and Mrs Eunice Birdoes, all of Peoria, Mrs Joanne Freaner of Anchorage, Alaska and Miss Beverly Schifeling, at home; three sons, Herbert Schifeling Jr of Kewanee, and Richard Schifeling and John Schifeling, both at home; four sisters, Miss Ethel Schifeling, Miss Genevieve Schifeling, Miss Eunice Schifeling and Mrs Irene Brown, all of Peoria, and four grandchildren.
