Hazel Marie Brown, 81, of Scottsdale, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003 at a Scottsdale nursing facility. She had been in ill health for several months. Hazel was born on July 12, 1921, in Four Mile, a rural community in Logan County, West Virginia. She was the second youngest of eight children of Alexander Sizemore and Melissa Clark Sizemore.
Survivors include her son, Kyle Lawson, and his wife, Patricia, of Scottsdale; step-son, David Brown, and his wife, Gail, of Huntington, W. Va. and step-daughter, Brenda Litteral, and her husband, Doug, of Scotown, Ohio; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and cousins.
Following graduation from business school, she became bookkeeper and office manager for several concerns in the Logan County area. Her first marriage to Herbert Lawson ended in divorce and she remarried Cecil Brown. They moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where she was employed as business manager for a children's hospital.
The couple retired in the early 1970s to Kentucky. They were avid travelers and she collected china, glassware and dolls.
Following the death of her husband, Hazel moved to Scottsdale to live with her son and daughter-in-law. She was a member of Scottsdale Wesleyan Church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 9, at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E. Indian School Road, Scottsdale.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, Jan. 10, at Scottsdale Wesleyan Church, 4640 N. Granite Reef Road, Scottsdale. Concluding services will be graveside in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Scottsdale Wesleyan Church.
