Matthew Armstrong, 90, who helped establish the United Steel Workers union in Buffalo, NY, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 1994) in Phoenix.
In addition to leading the United Steel Workers, he served as state director of the union and was a member of the union's national board of directors. He also was a member of the New York State Council for Economic Development and the Buffalo Diocese Ecumenical Council.
A native of Glasgow, Scotland, he lived in Buffalo most of his life until moving to Arizona in 1984.
He served in the Army during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; a daughter, Sandra Thomson of Phoenix; a son, Donald of London, England; and five grandsons.
