Daniel Eric Salembier, 36, of Sisseton, S.D., formerly of Flagstaff, died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2009.
Mr. Salembier was born on Aug. 29, 1973, in Sikeston, Mo., to Alphonse and Donna (Groos) Salembier. He grew up and attended school in Dixon, Ill., graduating from Dixon High School in 1992. He then attended Northland College in Ashland, Wis., for one year. He then went to Montana to attend Montana State University in Bozeman, graduating in 2004 with a Bachelor of Science in abused land reclamation. After his college education, Mr. Salembier worked in the Florida Everglades and with New Mexico State University.
He was diagnosed with cancer in February of 2008. He continued to work at New Mexico State University until May of 2009, when he came to Sisseton, S.D., and stayed until his death. He loved the outdoors; he liked to snowboard, scuba dive and swim. He also loved camping, hiking and fly fishing.
Mr. Salembier is survived by his parents, Alphonse Salembier of Parks, and Donna Salembier of Sisseton; brother Andrew Salembier of Flagstaff; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents.
A memorial service was Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church, of Sisseton, with the Rev. Peter Reynen officiating.
