Charles A. Hollinger, 79, known as Chuck or Charlie, died Jan. 31, 2003 at RTA Hospice House in Casa Grande. The memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church of Casa Grande, with the Rev. Larry Baker and the Rev. Carolyn Scribner officiating.
Mr. Hollinger was born April 21, 1923 in Akron, Ohio, the only child of David C. and Mary (Richcreek) Hollinger, and was raised in Akron.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and an accountant in the tire-manufacturing business, working for BFGoodrich before retirement in 1984. He was an active member of Firestone Park Methodist Church in Akron and, for 30-plus years, of United Methodist Church of Kent, Ohio, serving in the choir and on many committees. At the church in Casa Grande, he was a member of the Administrative Council and Cornerstone Committee.
He was involved in many civic organizations, including PTA and Scouting. He enjoyed traveling the United States and Europe. He was a collector of stamps and model trains and enjoyed spending time on the computer. He was known to be reserved but with a dry wit and keen sense of humor. He also was known for his integrity and his giving and compassionate nature. He had wintered in Arizona for five years before moving to the state three years ago.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jacqueline "Jackie"; four sons, Brian Hollinger of South Salt Lake City, Utah, Chester "Chet" Hollinger of Sarasota, Fla., Craig Hollinger of Kent, Ohio, and Reg Hollinger of Delaware, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
