Hildegard Charlotte (Heyl) Gross, a longtime Wickenburg resident passed away on Sept. 11, 2003 in Peoria. She was born April 16, 1915, the sixth of seven children, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She graduated from Mission House College, Elkhart Lake, Wis., where she met Donald P. Gross. They were married in 1939. She spent most of her married life in Wisconsin and suburbs of New York City.
In 1959 she moved to Arizona with her children where she earned a master’s degree at the University of Arizona. She worked as an elementary school librarian in the public schools of Tucson, Grand Canyon and Wickenburg. She retired in 1978 and was active in the Desert Caballeros Museum, The Hassayampa River Preserve and with her Friday lunch bunch.
She is survived by two sons, David of Dufur, Ore., and Richard of Goodyear, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Sept. 20, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Frey Funeral Home.
