EICHHOLZ,
Byron Brodie
Byron Brodie Eichholz, retired Manhattan real estate manager, passed away suddenly of causes related to double pneumonia, on Sunday, November 5, 2000, in Barcelona, Spain, where he had been preparing for a trip to North Africa. He was 69.
Mr. Eichholz was interred Sunday, November 12, 2000, at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia. According to Morton Myles, former fashion designer, and the deceased's life partner of 30 years, Mr. Eichholz, the son of the late Bernard B. Eichholz and Miriam Brodie Eichholz, was born November 16, 1931.
He attended Tulane University and graduated from the University of Georgia with a Degree of bachelor of Business Administration, before moving to New York City in 1960. The City was his permanent home base until the late 1980s. Mr. Eichholz was first associated as a realtor with John Tysen of Previews Inc. He quickly became a respected real estate industry leader, and successfully managed many of Manhattan's most prestigious luxury co-op buildngs on Fifth, Park and Madison Avenues; and in Gramercy Park.
He was an accomplished horseman who participated in many horse shows and equestrian events in the Southern Circuit, regularly taking ribbons and trophies. More recently, he became an accomplished painter of abstract subjects and at the time of his death, was readying a forthcoming gallery showing of his work. An avid theater, opera and museum attendee, he supported opera guilds and museums on both sides of the Atlantic. Along with his life partner, he retired to Southampton in the late '80's to live at their estate Domaine d'Artagnan. The grounds surrounding the house were often open for garden tours to benefit local charities. As both were knowledgeable rosarians and willing to toil long hours in their gardens, their roses earned many prizes at the Annual Southampton Rose Society Show. In 1996 they sold the Southampton estate and built a sweeping mountainside home in Scottsdale Arizona, and divided their time between their residences in Scottsdale, London and the South of France.
He is survived by Morton Myles, of Scottsdale, Arizona; his sister Ellen Halperin, his nephew Scott Halperin, his niece Stephanie Halperin, all of Atlanta, Georgia. Donations in memory of Mr. Eichholz may be made to the American Lung Association of Arizona, 102 West McDowell Road, Phoenix, Arizona 85003
