WARNER,
Everett Eller
The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona
February 11, 2003
Everett Eller Warner, 86, died January 29, 2003. Born December 17, 1916, in Chicago, Illinois, where he was educated at the Harvard School for Boys, New Trier High School and The University of Chicago. He married Elaine Ruth Weber on October 9, 1942.
He was a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II, receiving his pilot training and wings at Mather Air Field in Sacramento, California. He became a Basic Training Instructor at Marana Army Air Base, out of Tucson, and then an Instrument Instructor in Lubbock, Texas. He returned to Chicago after the war to rejoin a family business, but came back to Arizona in 1954.
He purchased a small automotive engine rebuilding business in Phoenix called Motor Replacement Company. Over thirty years he developed it until it employed 120 people, and had branches in Tucson, El Paso, LasVegas and Salt Lake City. As an industry leader, he served as President of the Automotive Engine Rebuilders Association and the Production Engine Rebuilders Association. Everett was a long time supporter of the arts in Arizona. He backed sculptor John Henry Waddell in founding the Master Apprentice Program in order to develop the talents of new young artists. Finally, he was an accomplished potter and teacher.
Through all the years in business, he understood the responsibility of having many families depending on his business decisions. He also considered charitable giving an important responsibility. He was a longtime worker and supporter of Interfaith Cooperative Ministries. He and his wife established libraries at Home Base Youth Services and Booker T. Washington Headstart and Child Development Center in downtown Phoenix.
He is survived by his wife of sixty years, children John W. Warner and Jane W. Micou, and grandchildren John S. Warner and Nina C. Warner. Another child, Richard, predeceased him.
A memorial service will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Phoenix, 4027 E. Lincoln Drive on Sunday, February 16th, at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Planned Parenthood of Central and Northern Arizona, 5651 N. 7th Street Phoenix 85014; Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix 85014; or Arizona Community Foundation, 2122 E. Highland #400, Phoenix 85016.
