MATTINGLY, Leslie Anthony (Les), Jr.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 12, 2003 Leslie Anthony Mattingly Jr., 84, passed away, ending his long suffering, Feb. 6, 2003 at his home in Pinetop, AZ in the loving arms and care of his family. "Les", as we all knew him, was a self described "native Arizona desert rat", born in now-ghost town, Gleason, AZ. He attended Phoenix Union High and served our country in the U.S. Army (Medical Corps) and in the U.S. Navy as a Chief Pharmacist's Mate during World War II, serving at Pearl Harbor and Japan. Orthotics and Prosthetics was his professional life in Phoenix for 35 years and his passion was caring for disabled children at the then-Crippled Children's Hospital. He was a gifted technician, compassionate clinician, admired mentor and trusted friend. He is survived by his loving wife, Pauline C. Mattingly and their three children: Paula Jo Green, Lynda Bray and George Mattingly (Jennifer Mattingly). Also six grandchildren: Billy Jo Blackburn, James Bray, Leslie Bray, Marty Mattingly, Michael Mattingly and April Mattingly and three great grandchildren. A lifetime member of the Elks Club, Show Low, AZ and a 4th Degree Knight of St. Mary's of the Angels in Pinetop, AZ. Les loved Arizona and his home in the White Mountains. He dearly loved his wife and was a father who was always there to love and teach by example responsibility and work ethic. Services are a Rosary on the 14th of February at 7:00 PM and a Memorial service on Saturday, February 15th at 11:00 AM in Pinetop, AZ at St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church, a reception will follow. A devout Catholic and friend of the Parish, Les would rather have donations or contributions, in lieu of flowers, sent to St. Mary's of the Angels Catholic Church, P.O.
