Services: 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 17, 2003 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Heber, Arizona. Courtesy of Pat Wilson. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona January 21, 2003 Bettie May Martin Bettie was born and raised in Ogden, Utah, where she went through school, graduating from Ogden High School. She later moved to Arizona and lived in Phoenix where she worked for a time as a telephone operator. She then went to work for Valley National Bank. She retired in 1983 as a new accounts clerk after 35 years of service. It was while she was working at the bank that she met her husband Jim. They married Feb. 28, 1959 in Las Vegas and would have celebrated their 44th anniversary next month. They moved to Overgaard in 1983. Bettie was a life long member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a member of the Heber 1st Ward where she had been active in the Relief Society and worked in the ward library. She is survived by her husband James E. "Jim" Martin of Overgaard; her mother, Thelma May Maxwell of Scottsdale; one brother, Robert Spencer of Roy, Utah; one sister, Rayetta Temple of Scottsdale; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2003 in the Heber Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a viewing one hour prior in the the Relief Society Room. Burial will be in the Heber Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Bettie May Martin to the Northern Arizona Alheimer's Association, 225 Grove Ave., Suite B, Prescott, AZ 86301. Owens Mortuary of Show Low is handling the arrangements.
