METZEL, Harold N. (Metz)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Wednesday, January 15, 2003 Harold N. (Metz) Metzel, a resident of Scottsdale, Arizona the past 33 years, died January 12, 2003 at age 98. He was born in Peoria, Ill., May 1, 1904 to William & Elizabeth Metzel. After graduating from Bradley in 1926 he taught school for a year. He married the former Clara Cornell in July 1928. They moved to Lansing, Mich. where he began a 40 plus year career with Oldsmobile, beginning at the very bottom and retiring as General Manager of Oldsmobile and a Vice President of General Motors Corporation. Metz and Clara raised two children, Diane (William) Kranzler of Flagstaff, Az. and William (Sue) Metzel. He is survived by three grandchildren, Holly (Kevin) Dunn of Ca., Brian Kranzler and Thane (Geri) Kranzler, both of Flagstaff. Other survivors include a sister, Le Adelle Carey of Peoria, Ill. and daughter-in-law, Sue Taylor of Florida; three stepdaughters, Ellen Hill of Ca., Lynn Becker of Ohio and Janet Kelly of Montana. His son, Bill and three other grandchildren perished in a house fire in 1974. Other survivors After retirement in 1969, Metz and Clara moved to Scottsdale where he has remained the past 33 years. Metz and Clara enjoyed a 62 year marriage until Clara's death in 1990. In 1992 he married the former Alice Ratkovich, Alice died in 2002. Harold (Dad) enjoyed a long, full and interesting life. We will all miss him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Paradise Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, 9300 E. Shea Blvd., Scottsdale, Az.
