HALL, Jean Velma

The White Mountain Independent, Show Low, Arizona 09/30/2005 Jean Velma Hall, 78, died at the Hospice of the Valley at Friendship Village in Tempe Sept. 26, 2005. Jean was born in Lewis Town, Mont. Aug. 29, 1927. This was the third time Jean had faced cancer head on. She endured two surgeries previous to this, each giving her a few more years to serve the community she loved so much. Jean lost the last battle, but her death was swallowed in victory as she met her Lord face to face. She was a resident of Springerville and had lived in Arizona for 40 years. Jean was a homemaker. She was a strong supporter of the hospital auxiliary and spent many hours quilting, crocheting, and working in the gift shop. She was an avid gardener. Her home bloomed with African violets year round and her yard was a showplace. For many years Jean headed up the publicity and organization of the quarterly blood drives in Round Valley. It was she who called newspapers and passed out flyers to advertise the event. Jean's blood family is relatively small, limited to some cousins and aunts, but her extended family, her friends who loved her and will miss her, are innumerable. She is survived by two aunts Julia DeBuff and Virginia (last name unknown), and scattered cousins. Her husband John preceded her in death approximately 27 years ago. A rosary will be recited Sunday, Oct. 2, at 6 p.m. at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Springerville. A funeral service will be Monday, Oct. 3 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter's. Burnham-Jewkes Mortuary, Eagar, is in charge of arrangements.
