SKOUSEN, Elizabeth Ann

(Maiden Name: Griffith)

Elizabeth Ann Griffith Skousen, 85, a native and pioneer of Chandler, AZ, passed away August 28, 2002 at home surrounded by her loving family. Her father, Dio Griffith, was the first and only plumber in the town of Chandler and installed the plumbing in the new San Marcos hotel when it was built in the early part of the century. She watched Chandler grow and change from a small town with a population of 483 when she was born to a large city with almost 200,000 citizens at the time of her death. Married into one of the old farming families, she milked cows by hand and helped her husband plow and harvest with teams of horses. She raised a family of eleven children, teaching them to work hard, value education and love the Lord. A faithful member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in many different callings. Her favorite was working with children in the primary where she served for more than 50 years as teacher, president, counselor and cub scout leader. She loved to quilt and throughout her life made hundreds of beautiful quilts donated through Deseret Industries for the needy and also for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, K.K. Skousen; her children, Kliena Montgomery, Karen Schnebly, Sue Paz Soldan, Kathy Campbell, Judy, Dan, Ken and Ann Skousen, Emma Anderson, and Mark Skousen; by 65 grandchildren, more than 100 great grandchildren and one great, great granddaughter; by her brothers Dean, Delbert and Clarence Griffith and by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
