SIMONE,
Julius
A Toast to one of Phoenix's finest bartenders, Julius Simone, known by his patrons as "Jules", passed away in his sleep on August 27, 2002.
He was born in Brooklyn, NY in 1937, moved to Phoenix at age 7 with his parents Ralph and Emma, and younger brother Pat. Jules' first job was at the famous Westward Ho. He started as an elevator boy, worked his way to being a bellhop. He decided to stay in the restaurant business, eventually becoming a Bartender, working most of the famous establishments in town. His favorite nightclub was the Ivanhoe, located below the Playboy Club in downtown Phoenix. It was the hot spot in its day. His passion was football. He knew the game and players so well, everyone either wanted to bet with him, or ask his advice. He was so good at it that the Arizona Republic wrote him up, "Stop by the Ivanhoe and see Jules behind the bar for a line on a football game". They even called for his opinion. He was known as the life of a party, everyone enjoyed talking to him.
His Father Ralph, Mother Emma, and Son Frank preceded Jules in death. He will be missed greatly by his family: Brother Pat, Son Michael, Daughter-in-laws Karen and Helene, and Grandchildren Kyle, Vincent, Anthony, Nicholas and Cristian.
Memorial service was held for Jules on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2002, in the Messinger Mortuary Chapel, 7601 E. Indian School Rd., Scottsdale, AZ.
