LEE, Jack J.


Jack J. Lee, 77, of Coolidge AZ, died August 27, 2002. He was born in China and came to Phoenix in 1935. Upon graduation from Phoenix Union High School, he joined the U. S. Army in 1943 and was awarded a Philippine Liberation Medal with Bronze Star. Following the war, he attended Arizona State University and married in 1949. He settled in Coolidge in 1952 where he established a successful grocery business and raised a family. Jack was a member and former president of the Lions Club; a member of the Coolidge Chamber of Commerce; an original charter member of the Thomas Tang Post 50 of the American Legion; a member of the US-China Friendship Association; and a founder of the Sister Cities relationship between Phoenix and Chengdu, serving as the first Chengdu Committee Chair. He had an interest in the Chinese schools in the Phoenix area and sought to advance their education in the history of the Chinese in America. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Anna; children, Connie (Steve) Delehanty of Riverside, NY; Monty (Alice) Lee of Glendale, AZ; Kenneth (RoseAnne) Lee of Tucson, AZ and grandchildren, Allison and Connor. Visitation on Friday, August 30, 2002, with funeral service Saturday, August 31, 2002, both at A. L. Moore Grimshaw Bethany Chapel, 710 West Bethany Home Road, followed by burial at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, all donations to the six Phoenix Chinese schools.
