Ruth Smith Palmisano, Ruth was born and raised in the North Country of Missouri, later moving to Phoenix Arizona with her husband and four children. She had taught art for over 20 years in classrooms, seminars, and has taken traveling art groups to Hawaii, painting in different locations on the islands. She also took artists to Alaska aboard the Holland America Cruise Lines. Ruth has had several one and two person gallery shows and received many awards and recognitions, including the 'Ruth Palmisano Best of Show' award given in her honor by the Phoenix Artist Guild of Arizona. This is now a lifetime award bestowed by the membership. Ruth has gained community recognition for her work through Phi Delta Kappa, Gamma Delta Chapter, Arizona State University, and was awarded a number from the Library of Congress for her artwork and articles written on art. As a professional artist, she has served in many capacities. Ruth was the founder of the Phoenix Artists Guild in 1984, with members now numbering 150. Also, in 1994 Ruth founded the Arizona Pastel Artists Association and in 1996 founded the Paradise Valley Art League. Ruth's paintings have hung in many juried exhibitions and she has received Best of Shows, Best of Class, and the Arizona State Governor's Award. Ruth is currently showing her work at the Critique Encounters Gallery in Prescott, at Grand Canyon Railway in Williams, and at 'Whiskey Row's Paintin' Ladies Gallery' in Prescott. Ruth has been not only a mentor but also a bright, guiding light to many of today's artists. She will be terribly missed by those 'students', as well as the many others whose lives she has enriched. She is survived by her children Jon, Francis, Carol and Cecilia, grandchildren Johnathan, Antoinette, David, Andrea and Antonio, and sisters June, Harriett, Margaret and Shelia.
