KEITH, Marlow


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 13, 2003 Marlow Keith, an ASU Professor Emeritus, died peacefully at Desert Samaritan Hospital February 10th, 2003. The long-time Tempe resident and charter member of the Tempe Elks was 88. Born in Granite Falls MN, at age 5, he and his 8-year-old brother, Arden, traveled by train to Jerome joining their mother, a cook and restaurant owner. After graduating from Jerome High School in 1932, lettering in football, basketball and tennis, he apprenticed as a welder in the local mine. When hard times hit the copper mines, he relocated, found employment at Arizona State Teachers College as a bus driver and began taking classes. In 1946, he became a professor of Industrial Design and Technology at ASU and a tennis coach. He retired in 1979. His daughter, Katherine, and son-in-law, Andrew Rountree, survive him. Grandchildren Andrew Jr., James, Lisa and Marla and great-grand children Ryan and Macie, also survive him. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, February 14th at Carr-Tenney Mortuary in Tempe. (Obit: Courtesy of Pat Wilson)
