Courtesy of Pat Wilson. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 19, 2003 Theodore Borek, PhD, 81, son of the late Urban Borek and Mary Mazur Borek died January 12, 2003 in Prescott, AZ. He was born in Weirton, WV on September 17, 1921. He worked for the Weirton Steel Co. while attending West Liberty State College until being drafted into the U.S. Army Transportation Corps. He served in both WWII, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious achievement and the Korean Conflict where a cluster was added to his Bronze Star. During his first leave he married his college sweetheart. She presented him with a son a year later, one month before joining forces in England preparing for D-Day. He taught business subjects at West Liberty State College in WV. While there he completed the requirements for the MA and PhD degrees in economics at the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Major. After the Korean Conflict, he moved with his family to Phoenix, AZ. He taught social studies at Phoenix Union H.S. before joining the Business Dept. Faculty of Phoenix College in 1960 from which he retired in 1983. All who knew him recognized his ability to work well with others and to provide leadership, laced with humor, where a leader was needed. He based his decisions on Christian principles. He devoted his life to helping people. He is preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Dr. Mary Burns Borek, formerly of Avalon, PA; son the Hon. Ted B. Borek, Arizona Superior Court Judge in Tucson, AZ. Daughter-in-law the Rev. Karen O. Borek; brother Matthew of Carmel, CA.; sisters, Josephine Borek, RN and Irene Wasik both of Weirton, WV.; grandson Theodore C. Borek, PhD of Washington, D.C.; and granddaughter Catherine L. Borek of Los Angeles, CA. and many nieces, nephews, family and friends. Memorial Services in his honor will be held in Phoenix, AZ at 10:00 am Saturday, February 22, 2003 at the First Congregational Church 1407 N. 2nd Street. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made in his name to a worthy cause of your choice. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
