Robert Courtney Garland, loved life and lived it fully.
Born 1924 in Chicago, Ill., he served his country in WWII in the U.S. Army Air Corps 460th Fighter Squadron 1942-46.
Attended University of Arizona. In 1960's headed The Garland Avertising Agency in which his biggest accomplishment was the marketing and advertising of the new development, Dell Webb's Sun City.
In 1968, he bought the franchise for Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour Restaurants and coined the line, "Farrells features fabulous food and fantastic fountain fantasies for frolicking, fun-filled, festive families."
A gifted musician, an avid golfer, cook, photographer and outdoorsman, fishing all over America and Mexico.
Married 54 years to Jeanne Lusby Garland. Four children: Susie Campbell, Betsy Lovell, Richard Garland and Bob Garland. Eleven grandchildren and one new great-grandchild.
A service celebrating his life will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 10 a.m. at Paradise Valley United Methodist Church, 4455 E. Lincoln Drive, Paradise Valley.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Adventure Unlimited, 5201 S. Quebec Street, Greenwood Village, CO., 80111, supporting their camps in the Colorado Rockies, one of the places where all four of his kids learned to love the great outdoors.
