She died peacefully at 12:25 pm, Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Hospice of the Valley, 1522 W. Myrtle in Phoenix, AZ. She would have been 80 years old in April. She was married to her husband, Charles, on April 2, 1946. They would have celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary. Eunice was born in Wetumka, OK where she was the youngest of five children. Wetumka is a small farming and oil producing community in east-central Oklahoma. She lived and went to school there until the beginning of World War II. At the time, she and an older brother and sister moved to Oakland, CA where they worked in the shipyards. Her job was that of a painter. After the war, she moved to Phoenix, AZ. There she became reacquainted with Charles who she had known growing up in Wetumka. They fell in love and were married in Phoenix. When the Korean War began, Charles was called back to active duty in the U.S. Army. Eunice followed him and through military assignments, she was able to see much of the U.S. and many of the countries in Europe. They stayed with the service until Charles retired in February 1965. After Charles retired, they settled in Phoenix. She was a homemaker and loving mother. In later years, she enjoyed volunteering at the Washington Adult Center where she was on several committees. Her pride and joy was selling tickets at the dances. Eunice is survived by her husband Charles, her daughter, Connie Gannon of Mesa, and her two dearly loved grandchildren, Kathleen and Michael Gannon of Mesa. She was preceded in death by her two brothers and two sisters. There will be a memorial service to celebrate her life on Monday, February 17, 2003 at 10:00 AM. Services will be at A.L. Moore Grimshaw Mortuary, 710 W. Bethany Home Road, in Phoenix. There is no open casket viewing. She will be interned at Sunland Memorial Park in Sun City, AZ (date to be determined).
