HARRIS, Nelson (Nels)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 19, 2003 Nelson (Nels) Harris, 93, passed away January 14, 2003. At age seven, Nels came to Arizona from Gallatin, Missouri. He lived in both Phoenix and Camp Verde, Arizona. A veteran of World War II, Nels served as a submarine repairman in the Navy. He returned to Phoenix after the war and opened his own welding shop, A-1 Welding. In the 1960's, he moved to Camp Verde and opened A-1 Welding there. Nels loved Arizona and the Southwest, and spent much time exploring this beautiful part of the world. He was a warm and loving person with a wonderful sense of optimism. He will be missed very much by family and friends. Nels is survived by daughters Gloria McConnell and Karen Harris, three grandsons, and one granddaughter. Services will be private.
