Mr. Larry Lee Knight, 59, passed away January 9, 2003 at Torrance Memorial Hospital, Torrance, Calif. He was born March 13, 1943 in Ottumwa, Iowa.
Larry spent 18 years United States Marine Corps, where he earned the Good Conduct medal, and later retired from the City of Yuma. He was also a member of American Legion, the Certified Umpire Affiliation, Organized Sanitation Rodeos in Yuma and various other cities; he founded South Yuma Bobby Sox in 1977, and was Field Supervisor for Parks and Recreation Sports Facilities. He was the 1983 Sportsman of the Year.
Larry is survived by his wife, Brenda Ann Knight of Yuma; daughter, Danelle Lynn Knight of Yuma; son, Alan Lee Knight, of El Cajon, California; sisters Vickie Freeze of W. Des Moines, Iowa and Linda Visset of Des Moines, Iowa; mother-in-law, Alice Coburn of Yuma; sister-in-law, Betty Howard of Santa Ana, Calif.; brother-in-law, Steve Coburn of Yuma; two grandchildren and 22 nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Evelyn and Joe Urry; grandparents Charles and Emma Knight, and Effie Knight; father-in-law Jasper E. Coburn.
Memorial services will be on January 21, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at Sunset Vista, with burial to follow. Paul Killingsworth will be officiating.
Larry's final resting place will Sunset Vista Veterans Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers will be Oscar Chavez, Lucas Varas, Robert Turnbow, Steve Coburn, Don Perry, Jimmy Herrera, George Drake, Joe Robinson, Frank Vasquez, and Richard Long.
