PRETTYMAN, Raymond Patrick (Pat)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 19, 2003 Raymond Patrick Prettyman, 88, a long time Casa Grande resident and businessman passed away Thursday, January 16, 2003. The past year he lived in Chandler due to health reasons. Mr. Prettyman started in the grocery business with his father in 1930, while still in high school. Pat has worked the grocery business continually in the Casa Grande area; and during the 1950's there were three Prettyman's Markets. In 1968, Pat built a modern new store on E. Florence Blvd. (Now Pep Boys), operating that until retirement in 1982. Pat served many years as a board member of First Federal Savings and Loan. He helped found Central Arizona Bank in Casa Grande and served on the Board of Directors. He was the President of Arizona Retail Grocers, Board of Directors Member, and in 1989 was inducted into the Arizona Grocers Hall of Fame. Pat was an avid golfer, enjoyed Barber Shop Quartet music, and was a member of the Lions Club, Masonic Lodge #30, Elks Lodge, Shriners, Arizona City Golf Association. He was preceded in death by his first wife Alice B. Prettyman in 1970, and his second wife Pauline F. Prettyman in 1999. He is survived by his sons, Ray P. of Chandler, Az., Thomas M., of Joplin, Mo., Charles H. of Neosha, Mo., and James D. of Phoenix, Az.; step-daughter, Pat Pretzer of Eloy, Az., step-sons, Ira Clark of Texas and Douglass Clark of Phoenix, Az., seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Cole & Maud Casa Grande Chapel on Wednesday, January 22, 2003, 5:00-7:00 p.m. Services will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 23, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hospice of Arizona, 2222 W.
