SERGENT, Dwaine


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, January 19, 2003 Dwaine Sergent, 70, passed away on January 5th, 2003. He was the beloved husband of Margaret, loving father of Tim and daughter-in-law Kim and of daughter, Kathy and Fred Decker of Klondyke, Az. He leaves two wonderful grandchildren, Matthew and Jacob. He is further survived by his brother Donald of California and Orville of Missouri; his mother-in-law Emeline Baxter, his brother-in-law, A.A. Richards, Jr., and his nieces and nephews. He received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in Civil Engineering at New Mexico State University and was named 1 of 100 outstanding Alumni of that University. Dwaine joined Kleinfelder, Inc. five years ago as Director of Engineering. Prior to joining that firm he was President of Sergent, Hauskins and Beckwith Geotechnical Engineers (SHB), of which he was co-founder in 1959. He has been active in Geotechincal Engineering in the Southwestern United States, Mexico, and South America for the past 43 years. He was especially gifted as a mentor for young engineers. Dwaine was instrumental in helping to establish the soccer program for Madison schools, he was the long time coach of the Madison Roadrunners of Youth Soccer in Arizona. He was advisor to his daughter's Explorer Scout Post #970 that centered around backpacking and was an avid outdoorsman. His life was centered around his family.
