HARRISON, William DeWitt


William DeWitt Harrison age 70, of Phoenix, passed away July 02, 2002, after a courageous battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Bill was born January 11, 1932, in Tuscola, Texas, to Mildred (Presley) and Elmer Harrison. Bill was raised in Putnam, Texas by his father and paternal grandmother, Elizabeth. At age 8, Bill's father married Mildred Fleming and moved the family to Abilene. Bill attended Abilene High School, Hardin-Simmons College and graduated with a B.S. in mechanical engineering from Texas Tech. He met his wife, Barbara (Bullock), on a double-date. Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army and attended training at Fort Bliss. He then served his two-year tour as a radar technician in Germany. Bill worked as a mechanical engineer for General Electric, Collins Radio, Inc., Goodyear Aerospace, and Honeywell. Bill also enjoyed his "retirement" years volunteering for the Phoenix Police Department. His skills were so useful that he received the honor of "Phoenix Police Department Volunteer of the Year 2000." Bill and Barbara, his wife of 50 years, had three children: Derek (deceased), Dana McCart, and Julie Harrison-Chilton. Bill is survived also by his grandchildren, Kevin and Ashley McCart and Elizabeth Chilton.
