Rev. Reinhold "Reinie" Martin Jensen, Memorial services for Rev. Reinie Jensen, 85, of Citadel Retirement Home, Mesa, AZ, will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, February 21st, at East Mesa Christian Church, 706 S. Greenfield Road.
Reinie passed away February 12, 2003, Neely Ray Hospice House, Gilbert, AZ. Reinie received his undergraduate degree from Missouri Valley College in 1939, followed by seminary training at Eden Theological Seminary, graduating in 1942. He also pursued graduate studies at the University of Southern California. He was ordained by the Evangelical and Reform Church and served congregations in Nickerson, KS, Fall City, NE, Columbus, NE, Long Beach, CA, Wichita, KS, and Shepherd of the Desert, Mesa AZ as well as serving as Pastor Emeritus.
His ministry activities included leading various Scout Troops and Leadership Training Camps of Young People, producing religious programming "Upper Room Pageant" at WOW TV, Omaha, NE, and serving as a Conference officer in Nebraska and California. Under Reinie's leadership, the St. Luke's Church of Columbus, NE, both built a new church and retired its mortgage. Reinie's civic work included serving as an officer of Mended Hearts Inc. of Arizona, and the Mesa, AZ, Elks Lodge, directing the Sunland Village Singers, and membership on the Lutheran Hospital Foundation Board and Grants Committee.
In Nebraska, he served on the Governor's Committee on Education and in California he served as President of Toast Masters. Additionally Reinie was a professor of philosophy and religion at Mesa Community College from 1968 through 1979.
Reinie was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; parents, Detlef and Hulda Jensen; and, brother, Eugene Jensen. Survivors include his sons, James E., Gilbert, AZ, and Daniel L, Wichita, KS., daughter, Pamela Rehfeld Mesa, AZ. Grandchildren Michelle Rodriguez, Heather Harvey, Nathan Jensen, and Chad Rehfeld; great-grandchildren Robert, Jessica, and, Kimera.
The family suggests memorial contributions to East Mesa Christian Church, 706 S. Greenfield Road, Mesa, AZ Or Banner Hospice do Lutheran Hospitals Foundation 2830 E Brown Suite 14, Mesa, AZ, 85213.
