WALL, Walter J.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 16, 2003 Walter J. Wall, 93, of Tempe, died on February 6, 2003. Born in a log cabin in Rockingham County, NC on May 28, 1909, he was the ninth of ten children. Walter had an MBA degree from Northwestern University. He married Beulah Neiderhiser on June 5, 1934 and they were married 62 years before her death on June 21, 1996. Walter was a CPA registered in Ohio, Illinois and AZ and enjoyed a long career in financial management. In 1959 he became the comptroller for the Salt River Project and retired from that position in 1974. Active in church, community and professional groups, Walter's affiliations included member and past director of the Tempe Rotary Club, president of the Arizona Financial Executives Institute, director of the Tempe United Fund, and a member of American Institute of CPAs, National Association of Accountants, Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, Masonic fraternity, and First United Methodist Church of Tempe. His favorite pastimes included photography, painting and travel. Walter is survived by his three children, James R. Wall of Auburn, AL, John W. Wall and his wife Mary-Wales North of Tucson, and Janet Stevens of Tempe as well as one grandson, Scott Wall of Chandler. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Walter may be sent to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower Street, Phx, AZ 85014 or the First United Methodist Church, 215 E. University, Tempe, AZ 85281. A memorial celebration of Walter's life will be held in the Convocation Room of Friendship Village, 2645 E. Southern Ave., Tempe, on Sunday, February 23rd at 3P.M.
