Judy K. Severance of Scottsdale, Arizona, passed away at home Tuesday, January 21. She was born May 11, 1944, in Alliance, Ohio, and moved to Arizona in 1952.
While attending ASU, she became the first four-time All-American archer in the history of U.S. intercollegiate competition, and was the Number One ranked collegiate women's archer in 1965, 1966 and 1967; her portrait hangs among the greats in the ASU Hall of Fame in Wells Fargo Arena.
Judy graduated with a Master's Degree in education in 1969. Her teaching career included stints at Cocopah and Kiva elementary schools. Judy's dedication to teaching computer science for 11 years at Scottsdale's Supai Middle Schools inspired the naming of a newly built facility as the Judy Severance Computer Lab.
During a break in her teaching carrer, Judy served as Vice President of her family's business, Mercury Tool and Manufacturing, which was founded by her father, the late Robert H. Severance. Judy is survived by her mother, Opal; her brothers Robert W. and James; her aunt and uncle, Ruth and Dick Maag; her friend and longtime companion, Ruthie Sieperman; and countless dear friends.
Friends and family will gather at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, January 25, at Mercer Chapel, 1541 E. Thomas Road in Phoenix, Az.
Final resting place is Green Acres Cemetery, Hayden and McKellips in Scottsdale, Az.
