HORN, Ivanore (Ivy) Adelaide

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 19, 2003 Ivanore "Ivy" Adelaide Brown Horn, age 96, of Mesa, AZ., passed away in her sleep Feb. 12, 2003 at Wellspring Assisted Living Home in Mesa, AZ. Ivy was born Oct. 17, 1906 in Ellsworth, PA. to Joseph L. and Margaret M. Brown. Two siblings, Thyra Grant and Joseph L. II predeceased her. Most of Her life till marriage was spent in Bentleyville, PA. She graduated from California Normal School in California, PA. with an education degree and taught 4th, 5th, and 6th grades for 5 years in Bentleyville. She returned to teaching in 1953 and taught in Lagonda, PA. until her retirement in 1969. In 1932, she married Dunning H. Horn and they were married for 52 years until his death in 1984. They lived in Washington, PA. all of their married life until 1973 when they moved to Mesa, AZ. They had two children Marcia H. Rupright (Ron) of Mesa, AZ. and Barry H. Horn (Joan) of Seattle, WA. Ivy was grandmother to three grandchildren Robert Rupright (Karla) of Tucson, AZ, Michele Garcia (George) of Temecula, CA., Julie Stringham (Jack) of Seattle, WA. She had 5 great-grandchildren Jason, Tara, Bryan, Cody, and Conner. She is also survived by sister-in-law, Betty Brown of Bentleyville, PA., and nieces and nephews; Carole Corwin, Cindy Huber, Tom Brown, Jody Brown of PA. and Peggy Knutson of AZ. Ivy was a member of Bethany Community Church, Tempe, Arizona. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Bethany Community Church on Sat., Feb. 22nd at 11:00 A.M. followed by a luncheon reception in C-1 at the church. Rich Hendrix, Bethany pastor and Harold Barrington, a retired pastor and close friend, will be officiating. A private family burial will precede the service in Mesa Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Ivy's name may be made to Bethany Community Church Missionary Fund, 6240 South Price, Tempe, AZ. 85253.
