Pachta, 68, resident of Taylor died Feb. 12, 2003 at the Payson Care Center after a long illness. Charlie was born Dec. 19, 1934 in Des Moines, New Mexico to Hazel and Elmer Pachta. After graduation from Raton High School he served in the U.S. Army in California and Georgia. He finished his military career in 1958 and returned to New Mexico. In 1967, he and his family moved to Heber where he served with the U.S. Forest Service Job Corps as a counselor. Charlie worked with the Forest Service for 30 years, retiring from the Lakeside Ranger District in 1994. He will be remembered by his friends and players, as coaching and managing baseball and softball for many years, which was one of his greatest hobbies along with woodworking. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lillian A.; two sons, Mark (fiancée, Michelle), Mickey (Patricia); two brothers, Jack of New Mexico and Henry of Colorado; mother-in-law, Audie Brown of New Mexico; three grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 15 at Calvary Baptist Church in Show Low. Arrangements are under the direction of Fletcher's Mortuary of Snowflake.
