DAY, Bryan Doremus

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 20, 2003 Bryan Doremus Day, born July 28, 1953 passed away February 13, 2003 at the age of 49 in Ensenada, Mexico. Bryan lived all but the last 2 months of his life in the North Phoenix family home built by his father David. At an early age Bryan was diagnosed with the crippling disease, Frederick's Ataxia. Not expected to live long, Bryan went on to live a full life including sailing, scuba diving, and cruising. He was an expert backgammon player, once making the final sixteen in the World Tournament. He also finished 3rd place in the Newport Beach Regatta in his 16 foot Hobie Cat. Bryan, like his dad, was an excellent builder and designer. He helped his father design pools and bathrooms for new and remodeled homes. But Bryan rarely talked about his own accomplishments except to share an occasional funny story. His great interest was in others. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior at the age of 13 and went on to tell the old old story to all he met. He was a faithful listener of Larry Wright tapes and attended many Abundant Life Bible Studies. His church affiliation was with Palms Gospel Chapel where he developed many close friendships. Because of his illness, he needed a constant caregiver. The first and best until her death, was his loving mother. Then about 5 years ago, Irma followed a long line of caregivers. She, like most before, developed a great appreciation for Bryan. After a little more than a year a deep love formed between them and they were married. Bryan was so proud of "his wife" and he was an excellent husband. Surprisingly, all his immediate family proceeded him in death with the exception of Irma and his brother Bob, whom he loved more than any will ever know.
