SHUGARTS, Thomas O.

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 20, 2003 Thomas O. Shugarts, 66, of Sun City, AZ, was called to his heavenly home on Feb. 15, 2003. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, friend, teacher, and coach, who will be missed by his family and many friends. His ready wit, warmth of spirit, and keen mind were an inspiration to many. His teaching and coaching career included 25 years in the Montgomery County Public Schools, Maryland, Shadow Mountain High School and The Phoenix Hebrew Academy, Phoenix. He was also active in the NEA and the local and state affiliates in Maryland, as well as a volunteer at RFB&D in Sun City. He is survived by his wife, Wynn, son Stephen (Bonita) and Scott Shugarts, and daughter Kimberly (Jeffrey) Shirk, as well as 9 grandchildren, and parents-in-law, Wayne and Alice Staats. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nora and Orville Shugarts, daughter Wendy S. Abbate, and granddaughter Laura M. Shugarts. Services at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Sun City, AZ.
