George Jay
George Jay Denney, 79, resident of Mesa, passed away July 5, 2002 . He was born March 20, 1923 in Leavenworth, KS.
He was honorably discharged from the US Army, having served as SSG. George retired from cabinetmaking and enjoyed golf, fishing, Diamondbacks baseball and using his woodworking gifts to serve the Lord. He built the alter, baptismal font and pulpit for St. Paul
Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ. He was a charter member of Family of Christ Church, Phoenix, AZ and Genesis Lutheran Church, Buchanan Dam, TX. At Genesis, he was a key in renovating the church's facilities. He faithfully attended Early Bird Bible class at Epiphany until his health began failing.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Ginger Gaston, former wife Angie and brothers Reynolds & Robert Denney. Survivors include sons Larry of Kingsland, TX; Russell of Glendale, AZ; Darrell of Phoenix, AZ; and daughter Sheila Hunt of San Diego, CA, 2 sisters, 4 brothers, 11 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Service: Tuesday, July 9th, 2002, at Epiphany Lutheran Church 800 W. Ray Rd. Chandler, AZ 85225 with visitation 1 hour prior. Memorials may be made to the church building fund. Arrangements by Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary
