ESKEW,
Larry R.
Larry R. Eskew On June 26, 2002, Larry died peacefully in his sleep after a long illness. He was sixty nine. Larry was born in Marshall, Missouri on July 31, 1932.
He moved to Phoenix with his family at the age of twelve where he attended Grand Avenue, North High and Phoenix College. At North High, he was the President of the Corsairs, a high school fraternity. There, he formed many close friendships, which lasted his entire lifetime. Larry was a devoted father. He never missed a band performance, a swimming meet, softball game or an orchestra concert while his daughters were growing up. He continued to be a comforting, supportive and loving presence in his daughters' lives to the very end of his
life. Larry loved nature. An avid camper and fisherman in his younger years. he contented himself with observing the birds in his yard and the stars in the heavens, as he grew older. He loved to sit outside, cup of coffee in hand, to chat with his many friends, friends of friends, children's friends, neighbors, or anyone who happened to drop by. Many people were comforted and nurtured by his easygoing, loving nature. He was a good man.
Larry is survived by his friends and former wives, Jan Eskew, Shirley Chapple Eskew, his daughter, Sherry O'Reilley and her husband Tim of Anthem, AZ, his daughter Michelle Griggs and her husband Randy of Fresno, CA, his daughter Laura Jill Eskew of Phoenix and
his daughter Ellen Icardo of Clovis, CA. He was also the proud grandfather of Matthew, Daniel, and Thomas Griggs of Fresno, CA and Alyscia Icardo of Clovis, CA. His beloved granddaughter, Rebecca Miller, predeceased him. He grieved for her every day of his life. We grieve for him now. His infant son, Dirk predeceased him in 1958. He valued family including nieces, nephews, and others.
Funeral Service will be held at the chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn on Monday, July 1, 2002. Burial will follow at Memory Lawn. Flowers or a donation to Phoenix Fire Dept. Community Assistance program AR Van Station #18, 5019 N. 23rd Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85015 would be welcome.
