MANGIN, Frank


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 23, 2003 Frank Mangin, Our Father, a long time Arizona resident, died on February 20, 2003 in Tucson. He was 74. He was born in 1928 in Chicago. As a child, he was a regular on the radio program The Whiz Kids. He graduated from the University of Chicago at the age of seventeen in 1946. Soon, he began a seven-year term with the U.S. Army, which culminated with active service in the Korean Conflict in 1950-1952. While in Korea, he received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He married in 1951, came to Phoenix in 1953 and began a career which would include work in banking, real estate, and economic development. He also was active in the Republican Party in the 1950's and 60's, at one point serving as the party's executive director. He moved to Douglas, Arizona, in the late 1970's, working in economic development. He also worked as a substitute teacher in Douglas schools and wrote for the local newspaper, The Dispatch. He specialized in articles about veterans from southeast Arizona who served in World War II and Korea. A long-time member of The American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Frank Mangin was fascinated with history, especially military history. He was quite knowledgeable about all aspects of life in Arizona and loved the state very much. He is survived by his wife Noemi and his eight children: Margaret; Gary (wife, Linda); Didar (wife, Didar Kaur); Michael (wife, Eve); Mary Violet (husband, Bill); Stephen (wife, Deidre); Jose (wife, Melissa); and Lisa Maria. He had ten grandchildren. Services will begin at 9:30 AM at St. Luke's Church in Douglas, Arizona on Monday, February 24. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
