(Maiden Name: Lusty)
The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona
February 23, 2003
Florence L. McDonald, a beloved wife, mother and grand-mother, died peacefully at her home Thursday, Feb. 20, [2003] after an extended illness. Florence, who was surrounded by her family when she passed away, was born April 30, 1912, in Evanston, Wyo., a daughter of Roscoe and Eva Lusty. At 15, Florence's parents moved the family to Ogden, where she attended school. Two years later, in 1927, Florence earned a high school diploma from Ogden High School.
On Sept. 12, 1934, she married Gerald E. McDonald. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together, Florence and Ged built a loving home for their three daughters, Kaye, Judy and Gerri. Florence, affectionately known as "Flo" by her friends and family, was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many capacities.
She also worked at the Bank of Utah for 17 years. After retiring from the bank in 1973, Florence kept busy by volunteering two days a week at McKay Dee Hospital. In all, Florence donated more than 7,000 hours as a hospital volunteer. Florence, a gentle, warm soul with a kind smile, dearly loved her family. She loved to watch the Utah Jazz, have family dinners, plan special holiday events and cook favorite meals on the birthdays of her children and seven grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ged, and her daughters, Dr. Kaye McDonald (Bernardette Maxwell), Apache Junction, Ariz., Judy Coy (Lynn), South Weber, and Gerri Haney (Art), West Haven. She also is survived by her grandchildren Glen Coy, Karyn Coy, Brent Coy (Jodi), Dean Coy, Kris Ahmann (Doug), Jeff Haney (Shawn Winger), Steve Haney (Shauna). She also has six great-grandchildren, Mikayla, Tyler, Hailey, Kyle, Jessi and Brittyn.
The family extends special thanks to Annmarie, Sandy, Alpine Home Care and Hospice of Utah. Your tender care of our mother and grandmother has meant so much to us.
