GOMEZ-ESCALERA, Arturo (Dr.)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, March 2, 2003 Arturo Gomez-Escalera, M.D., 86, of Scottsdale, Arizona passed away on December 14, 2002, surrounded by his beloved wife of 50 years, Adeline (Zurek) his children Cristina Dickson, (husband Doug), Art Jr., (wife Cindy), and son John. He is also survived by daughters, Vickie Escalera and Katherine Gomez, grandchildren, Michael Gulick, AJ and Alexa Escalera, and Santiago and Gabriel Proano-Gomez. Dr. Escalera was born in Chaparra, Cuba on April 24, 1916. After graduating from medical school at the University of Havana, he came to the United States in 1948. He practiced medicine as a general surgeon in Cleveland and Lakewood, Ohio until he retired to Scottsdale in 1985. He was an inspiration and source of strength to his family and patients, and will be sorely missed. Memorial services were held at Scottsdale Bible Church Chapel on Sunday, December 22, 2002.
