HARWOOD, JR., Gilbert (Gib)

The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, March 2, 2003 Gilbert (Gib) Harwood Jr., 80, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away February 17, 2003. Gib was born and raised in Whitinsville, Ma. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during WWII, and was one of the first American soldiers that entered and helped liberate the infamous Buchenwald concentration camp in Nazi Germany. In 1952, he moved his family to Arizona, initially working as a missile designer for Hughes. Within a few years he opened his own family business, Harwood Industries. With his son Will now at the helm, the forty eight year old machinery and tool business is well known in Arizona. Gib's love of the outdoors and hunting with his family and friends was ever enduring. Gib brought home his last elk in his 80th year. Gib was quick to make friends, and his handshake was as good as gold. Gib's children, Margie Kwilosz, Rick, Will, their spouses, six grand-children, a great-grandson, his extended family and so many friends will miss him dearly. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the American Heart Association would be appreciated. A memorial service at Paradise Chapel Funeral Home, 3934 E. Indian School Rd., will happen at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 8th, 2003.
