The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Sunday, March 2, 2003 Mr. Knofel E. Mattox, 82, a longtime resident of the Sun Cities area, passed away on February 22, 2003, in Atlanta, Ga., after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Dorothy Mattox of Atlanta, Ga., daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Dave Langas of Ellijay, Ga., sons and daughters-in-law, John and Katherine Mattox of Phoenix, Az., David and Helen Mattox of LaConner, Wa., Daniel and Corky Mattox of Hiram, Ga., sister and brother-in-law, Mildred and Edward Jeski of Indianapolis, Ind., sister-in-law, Helen Mattox of Louisville, Ky., seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Knofel was a construction superintendent who spent his career working for Huber, Hunt, & Nichols Construction Co., Geupel DeMars Construction Co., C.W. Jackson, and The Bechtel Corp. The Midwest and Deep South are dotted with many large industrial complexes that he assisted with. While in the Phoenix area, Knofel worked on the Palo Verde Nuclear complex and managed the Mummy Mountain Construction Company. Services were held in the Atlanta area. Courtesy of Pat Wilson.
