Maggie Layton Barra, 91, of Phoenix, AZ, passed away on June 26, 2002, after a very short illness.
She was born in Safford, Graham Co, AZ on June 16, 1911 to Frank Martin Layton and Emma Diana Ellsworth.
She graduated from what is now A.S.U. (Arizona State University) with an elementary education degree. She taught 2nd grade for 35 years, thelast 17 years at Madison Meadows in North-Central Phoenix. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in the Primary, Young Womens, and Relief Society organizations. Her favorite activity was attending D.U.P. (Daughters of the Utah Pioneers) where she served as historian for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Michael Eugene Barra, and three sisters, Emma (Layton) Merrell, Thelma (Layton) Hunsaker, and Zella (Layton) Shelley. She is survived by her daughter Dianna Lynn Barra, her brother, Grant Layton and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
