BIRCUMSHAW, JR., John H. (Hal)


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 25, 2003 John H. Bircumshaw, Jr., of Phoenix, Arizona, died February 21, 2003 at the age of 52. He is survived by his father John "Hal" Bircumshaw Sr, his sister Valerie Bush, his nephew Brian, his niece Rebecca, and a huge community of friends and loved ones. John was born January 5, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah to John "Hal" and Margaret Bircumshaw, and moved with his family to Phoenix in 1957 where he became an Eagle Scout, graduated from Arcadia High School, and attended Arizona State University, before leaving for England where he graduated from Oxford. John chose to commit his lifetime career to the non-profit sector of the Valley. From the Valley of the Sun Rehabilitation School, to Goodwill Industries, Dignita Hospice, and most recently as Executive Director of the Phoenix Museum of History, John worked tirelessly to improve the quality of life for citizens of Phoenix. His generosity, service and philanthropy reached every segment of the community, from Valley Leadership, the Arizona Opera, Phoenix Theatre, and Herberger Headliners, to Phoenix Body Positive, Arizona Human Rights Fund, the Wellness Community, Phoenix Academy Awards, AIDS Walk for Life, American Cancer Society, Trends Charities, and so much more. Donations to be made to Phoenix Body Positive. Visitation will be held from 9:00 10:00 A.M. with a service at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, February 27, 2003 at the Phoenix Theater, 100 E.
