KIRKENDALL, Elizabeth (Libby) V.


The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona February 25, 2003 Elizabeth (Libby) V. Kirkendall was born March 10, 1916 in Logansport, Indiana and passed away in Scottsdale, Arizona, February 16, 2003 of breast cancer. Libby was a woman with an adventuresome spirit & a ready smile, loved dearly by family & friends. Married to Walter E. Kirkendall for 65 years, they spent 62 years making Grand Junction; Colorado their home, but traveled extensively throughout the world. After many years of spending winters in Arizona, they recently moved to Scottsdale on a permanent basis. She was one the of first women in the state of Colorado to graduate from law school, & did so from the University of Colorado in 1940. In the mid-1940's she was licensed as a recreational pilot, & enjoyed skiing, swimming & walking. A voracious reader, Libby was a member of the Reviewers Book Club in Grand Junction, & read several books a week all of her life. Also in Grand Junction, she was a member of Camaraderie, a women's social club. Libby worked at Union Carbide for 19 years, retiring in 1978. She found time to be actively involved in politics over the years, including the Republican Women's Club of Colorado. She also helped found the Grand Junction Dolphins Swim Team. She is survived by her husband; daughter Lisbeth Luper of Denver, Colorado; son Keeley Kirkendall of Westlake Village, California; & four grandchildren.
