LUJAN, Manuel (Manny)


Funeral services for Manuel Lujan, 79, of Safford, who passed away Tuesday, Dec. 8, in Tucson, were conducted Saturday, Dec. 12, at 10 a.m. at Vining Funeral Home Chapel of the Valley by President Joe Gonzales of the Kimball Branch. Concluding services followed in the Safford Cemetery. Manuel Medina Lujan was born in Clifton on Sept. 13, 1930, the son of Julian and Concepcion Medina Lujan. Shortly after his birth, Manny's mother passed away. As his father worked hard to support their family, Manny's older sister, Frances, helped raise her brothers and sister. Manuel Lujan At the tender age of 11, Manny began working around local construction sites, where he would often obtain work in cleaning up and any other jobs he could do. While doing this, Manny's love of construction became apparent. As a teenager he began working as a concrete finisher. Manny's skill with working concrete would not only take him around the country but also provided for him and his family. In 1969, Manny met Florence Cole. They were married soon thereafter. Manny continued traveling and working on various construction projects, including the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station and the Vatican Observatory on Mount Graham. In his later years, Manny continued his work with Yentsch Concrete. Manny was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, most recently attending in the Kimball Branch. Manny will be remembered for his love of life and his fellow man. Manuel leaves behind his wife, Florence, of Safford; his daughter, Theresa Denton (James) of Elko, Nev.; two sisters, Frances Hernandez of Clifton and Lucy Lujan of Mesa; his brother Joe Lujan (Diane) of California and numerous nieces, nephews and grandchildren. Manuel was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Concepcion Lujan. Arrangements were entrusted to Vining Funeral Home. Obit: Eastern Arizona Courier,Published on Sunday, December 20, 2009
