The Arizona Republic, Phoenix, Arizona Monday, March 3, 2003 Gloria H. Nelander, 78, of Scottsdale, Arizona, died on February 22, 2003. She was born in Superior, Az., September 10, 1924, the youngest child of Harry H. and Gertrude M. Hiener, who came to Arizona in 1909 and lived in Globe and Phoenix before founding the Superior Sun in 1916. She is preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Frederick J. Nelander (Col.-USAF). They met in Ajo, Az. in 1946, and had resided in Prescott, Nogales, Yuma, Tempe, and Sierra Vista, Az., and numerous other states and countries, before moving to Scottsdale 12 years ago. She is also preceded in death by her brothers, Woodruff and Howard Hiener, and sisters, Harriette Wilson, Helen Carnell, Charlotte Ellington, Jane Botkin, Virginia Shultz, and Bonnie Bower. She is survived by her son, Theodore J. Nelander, four nieces and nephews, and many grand, great-grand, and great-great-grand nieces and nephews. There were no services.
