Robert B.
Robert B. Carman, 78, of Litchfield Park, AZ, died Wednesday evening, June 26, 2002 with family members at his bedside. Born August 26, 1923 in Lansing, Michigan, he lived in California until moving to Phoenix in 1956.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the US Navy aboard the USS Bancroft (DD-598), starting with the early battles in the Aleutian Islands and for the duration of the war, including the liberation of the Philippines. He also served with the US Navy Reserve and the Arizona National Air Guard. After graduating from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, he had a long career in agriculture, including
work with the US Soil Conservation Service in California and as a district manager for the Niagara Chemical Division of FMC in Arizona. He worked with many of the state's farmers for almost half a century, most recently with West Side Fertilizer Company in Waddell. He was instrumental in organizing the USS Bancroft Reunion Committee, serving as Secretary and President over the years, creating and maintaining the committee's newsletter, The Scuttlebutt. A resident of Litchfield Park for over 30 years, he was a member of the Litchfield Park City Council.
Devoted to his family, Bob is survived by his wife Phyllis (Carman
Realty); brother Max; daughters Pamela (Steve) Cullen, Lindsay (Richard) Eymann, Allison (Ken) Huber, and Alicia Goodman; a son Tim and his wife Joan; granddaughters Jodi (Bourassa), Sara (Blackburn), Pippin (Chapman), Amy (Blackburn), and Liz (Eymann); gransons Neil (Goodman), Nick (Eymann), Teague (Cullen); great-grandson Sam (Bourassa); and many other loving relatives and friends.
Memorial service Wednesday, July 3rd, 2002, at Lundberg White Rose Chapel, 5310 West Northern Avenue in Glendale, followed by a short service at the National Veterans Cemetery, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, Arizona. Donations in his memory may be made to the Robert Carman Memorial Fund in care of Pamela Cullen, Desert School Federal Credit Union, PO Box 2945, Phoenix, AZ 85062-2945.
