Evelyn Henderson, 95, of Farmington, NM passed away March 2, 2003 in Mesa, AZ. She was born in Anaconda, Montana, November 14, 1907, but grew up in Miami, Arizona.
She attended the University of Arizona and Arizona State University at Tempe from which she received her Master's Degrees in Education and Library Science.
She married Frank Henderson, a metallurgical engineer in 1932. Their homes were in Miami, Phoenix and Morenci, AZ; Juneau and Fairbanks, Alaska; Moab, UT; Denver, CO; Oakland, CA; Searsdale, NY; and Carlsbad and Albuquerque, NM.
She was a school teacher and librarian in Phoenix, Carlsbad and Moab. Later she was a traveler who combined her love of watercolor painting with scenes from Europe, Kenya, Australia, and South America.
Evelyn was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, the Four Corners Art Association, New Mexico Watercolor Society and Northwest New Mexico Arts Council.
Her husband, Jesse Franklin; her parents, Joseph and Josephine Smith of Miami, AZ; sister, Carol Harkins of Prescott; and her brother, Joseph Smith of Peru, preceded her in death. Survivors include her son, Dr. R. Michael Henderson and his wife Patricia of Scottsdale, AZ; formerly of Farmington, her son Dr. Frank Henderson and his wife Ruth of Edmonton, Canada; sister, Patricia Guyer of Lakeside, AZ; grandsons Michael Henderson of Long Beach, CA; Paul Henderson and wife Tracy of Durango, CO; granddaughters Jessica Hackett and husband Steven of Brighton, CO; Amy Henderson of Albuquerque, NM; and four great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Interment will be in the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, NM with a pending memorial service at St. Mary's Parish Church in Farmington, NM.
