SMITH, Elizabeth Jean


Elizabeth Jean Smith of Phoenix, Arizona died Thursday, May 29, 2003. Her bravery and love are an inspiration and solace to her surviving family. After a courageous battle with a mental disease and lung cancer she succumbed to the cancer at just 51 years old. Elizabeth was born in Phoenix, Az on April 22, 1952. Elizabeth graduated from Arizona State University in 1976 with a degree in finance. She was an artist, an animal lover and enjoyed hiking in the Arizona desert. Elizabeth loved to give gifts and one of her greatest gifts was her quick wit and sense of humor for which she will be remembered. In addition to her twin brother Robert, she is survived by her sisters Barbara Smith Mandalfino and Kathleen Smith McCollum. She is also survived by her brothers-in-law Gary Mandalfino and Charles McCollum and her four nieces Angela Mandalfino, Bridget, Kate & Clare McCollum and her nephew Scott McCollum, who knew and loved her as Aunt Betty. Visitation will be open to all friends from 6-8pm with rosary at 7PM, Sunday, June 1, 2003, Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix. Services will be held at 9:30 AM, Monday, June 2nd, St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 2312 E. Campbell Ave., Phoenix. Published in the Arizona Republic on 6/1/2003.
